The Advanced Multiscale Materials Modeling (AM3) lab in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Utah has openings for undergraduate research, Masters research, and Ph.D. positions.
Students will work on exciting projects related to structural materials (metals and alloys) using cutting-edge multiscale modeling techniques, ranging from atomistics to crystal plasticity. These projects lie at the intersection of mechanics, materials science, and advanced computing (including HPC and ML). Students will also have opportunities to strongly collaborate with national laboratory and academic partners.
Preferred qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical/materials engineering, applied math, physics.
- Experience using computer programming languages, such as Python or Matlab
